After her mother’s death, Kessler worked as an unskilled resident assistant in a West Coast Alzheimer’s facility. She wanted to better understand the deteriating stages of mental decline that her mother had gone through as an Alzheimer’s patient. At the same time, Kessler sought to find answers within herself to the reasons for her troubled relationship with her mother.
