Researchers have isolated a compund in turmeric, a yellow spice that gives Indian curry powder its distinctive color, called bisemethoxycurcumin. It is bisemethoxycurcumin that appears to be an antitoxin, which has been shown to to boost immune cells, called macrophages, to clear amyloid-beta that has been shown to to kill brain cells and thought to be a link in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
